Other information:
- "The Independent" was the first completely independent CD release by an unsigned artist to get nationwide distribution in Wal-Mart stores.
- The album was originally released as "Fry Street," but retitled, remixed, and remastered with new album artwork for it's release in Wal-Mart, including a newer version of "Perfectly."
- "Side 2" was originally a secret track on the "Fry Street" version of the album, but was re-recorded as a bonus track for the album.
- "Luckiest of Suckers" originally appeared on the 2004 E.P. "Something Clever"
- The version of "Most Uncommon Thing" on this album is remixed with strings and piano, which differs from the "Something Clever E.P." version, which is only acoustic guitar and vocals.
- "The Independent" CD album features a 12 track bonus disc called "Acoustic Sessions" featuring stripped down versions of songs from the album, as well as a few unreleased songs.
- The cover photograph was actually a test shot while trying out a new camera.
